How to Remodel Your Kitchen While On A Budget

Kitchen Remodel On A Budget

You don’t need to break the bank or take a loan to change the appearance, layout, and furnishing of your kitchen. Irrespective of the style of kitchen you want and the decor vibe you want to achieve, you can remodel your kitchen with little as $500 or $1000.

As a mom, I have remodelled my kitchen without blowing my savings. There are a few aesthetic upgrades that can make big differences.

Things as little as repainting your kitchen cabinet yourself or adding a new light fixture that costs $10 can give your kitchen a fresh appearance.

So in this guide, I shared with you in detail how to remodel your kitchen while on a budget.

Whether you want to modernize an outdated kitchen or maximize a small kitchen for practical and aesthetic purposes, this guide has you covered.

1. Paint Faded Kitchen Cabinet

This is the first step to remodelling your kitchen.

Check for cabinets whose paint has faded out and buy paints of the same color and repaint them. The idea is to ensure your kitchen cabinet colors are sharp and shiny.

Some people prefer repainting the entire cabinet; that’s fine if you can afford it.

Otherwise, painting only the faded parts is enough.

2. Use a Kitchen Rug To Add Color

I used a washable kitchen rug when I remodeled my kitchen to add a pop of color. This is cost-effective when compared to colorful kitchen titles that are expensive.

And the interesting thing is that you can easily change the color of the rug when your taste and preferences change.

3. Give Your Cabinet Door A New Look

You can give your kitchen cabinet door a new look without changing the entire cabinet unit. There are DIY cabinet decor ideas you can try at home. For example, you can decorate it with wooden ball knobs, add a glass panel, or even paint your cabinet door to have a patterned look.

4. Try Color Drench

For small kitchens, I recommend you color-drench your kitchen to make it look bigger. Painting your kitchen walls, cabinets, and trims in the same shade, especially light colors, gives it a fresh and transformed look. And if you prefer a cozy kitchen makeover, consider a moody hue.

5. Install A Statement Ceiling

I went to my friend’s house one day, and she took me to her kitchen to show me how to make a meal.

While I was in the kitchen, I appreciated her kitchen ceiling and made it a duty to install such in my kitchen anytime I want to remodel it.

The fact is that a kitchen remodel isn’t complete if the ceiling isn’t attractive. Just like the kitchen floor, the ceiling deserves a fresh look. Install a statement ceiling to create that cozy vibe. There are affordable ones you can create with wallpaper, wood paneling, and paint.

6. Change Your Kitchen Floor Tiles

You don’t want your kitchen cabinets to look cozy and have kitchen floor tiles that are messy.

Install a new kitchen floor tile that complements your kitchen cabinet and wall decor.

If you live in a rented apartment like me, opt for peel and stick kitchen floor tiles. They are made of vinyl materials, durable, waterproof, and scratch-resistant.

They come in different colors, shapes, and textures, so you are sure of getting one that will match the existing color scheme in your kitchen.

And since they are peel-and-stick, you can remove them and take them with you when you move apartments.

7. Treat Kitchen Windows

Don’t forget to take care of the kitchen window when remodelling. Check the condition of the curtain or blinds you have in your kitchen window.

Replace them if they are bad and opt for colors that enhance the beauty of your kitchen.

8. Keep Appliances Arranged

Doing this doesn’t cost you money. All it requires is for you to make time to clean and arrange your kitchen appliances to look ordered. While they help you with cooking, they can also add to the aesthetics of your kitchen when they are arranged and put in the appropriate position.

9. Decor Your Kitchen Walls

10. Display Your Dishware

No need to buy new items when remodelling your kitchen. After cleaning and organizing your kitchen appliances, collect all dishware, arrange and display them in a manner that looks attractive.

11. Don’t Skimp On Lighting

Good lighting helps in the ambiance and functionality of your kitchen. When remodelling your kitchen, use recessed ceiling lights, under cabinet lights, pendants, or ceiling fixtures to brighten up different areas and zones in your kitchen.

12. Upgrade Faucets and Sinks

When remodelling your kitchen, you don’t have to redo plumbing. Just upgrade your kitchen sink and faucets to give the sink and washing area a new look.

There are different types of low-budget kitchen sinks with faucets you can buy.

For example, I bought an undermount double bowl stainless kitchen sink with a faucet the last time I remodeled my kitchen.

It cost me around $200 on Amazon, and till now it still creates an interesting look in my kitchen.

13. Use Contact Paper For Your Countertops

Use of contact paper that costs around $20 on Amazon is an affordable way to transform your kitchen counters.

They are in a peel-and-stick form, made of vinyl materials, and they stick smoothly on your existing countertops.

They come in different styles that look like granite or quartz, white or black marble, butcher block wood, and modern matte finish.

14. Create a Small Coffee Station

If you are like me, who takes morning coffees, you can create a small coffee station in a corner of the kitchen counter and decorate it with your coffee-making items. This adds a refreshing and attractive look to your kitchen.

Final thoughts

Remodelling your kitchen shouldn’t cost an arm and a leg. With as little as $1000, you can remodel your kitchen to suit your style and preference.

I have shown you different ways to go about it, starting from painting a faded kitchen cabinet to creating a small coffee station; you have all you need to refresh the look and aesthetic of your kitchen.
