1. Embrace Minimalistic Design
A simple minimalistic design will prevent your small bedroom from being cramped which visually expands your space. You wouldn’t want your friend or family member to come into the bedroom only to find it hard to move around because there is no walkway in your bedroom.
Go for clean lines and natural colors, and select bed frames with sleek designs that won’t cover the whole space. Paint your bedroom wall with natural colors like white and light gray that help create that sense of openness and lightness.
2. Keep Multi-functional Furniture
Go for furniture that serves a dual purpose as they will save you space. For example, you can buy a convertible bed – a bed that can serve as a sofa or couch in your space; use it as a bed to sleep at night and use it as a sofa or couch to sit and relax in the day.

Another option is to go for a bed with a drawer underneath, the drawer will provide a space to store items, thereby saving space where you could have placed a standalone drawer.
I recently got a convertible dining table that my friends and I can use. I even use it for writing and other tasks. The interesting thing here is that I can fold it away when not in use to save space.
3. Mount Wall Shelf
I didn’t want books and other documents to take up space on the floor of my bedroom so I decided to get a wall shelf and mount it. All my books now are kept on the shelf including important documents I only use once in a while.
In fact, I recently moved my lightweight home printer to the wall shelf to save space since I don’t use it regularly. What I like about wall shelves is that it creates vertical spaces in the bedroom and at the same time interesting visuals that make the room look larger.
4. Lightening
Your small bedroom design or decoration isn’t complete without lighting ideas that make bold statements. You lighten up your bedroom to create that ambiance and versatility.
In my case, I used a pendant light. You can also use wall sconces as they instantly attract the eye and add visual appeal to your bedroom.
Why I like pendant lights is that you can dim bulbs and adjust settings to your needs. For example, you can make the light illuminate more when you are writing or doing other tasks that require bright lights and you can dim it when you want to sleep or relax at night.
5. Indoor Plants
Add indoor plants in your vertical space in the bedroom to create that cozy look, and visual interest and improve air quality in your bedroom.
So instead of having the indoor garden on the floor of your bedroom which takes space, you can have them in your vertical space. It can be a simple DIY hanging arrangement or a well-elaborated living wall system if you can afford it.
Conclusion
Even though your bedroom is small, you can still decorate and design it to your taste to create that feel you want as an adult. I didn’t hire someone to do it for me when I moved into my bedroom apartment. And I have shared some of the ideas I implemented to transform my bedroom into what I always wanted. You too can do the same by taking a clue from the ideas that I shared.
